Jeepers Creepers 2, directed by Victor Salva starts as like its not horror film. The first couple of shots are bright with no sign of any horror connotations apart from the sound. Although, the first thing the viewer sees is the text "Every 23rd Spring for 23 days, it gets to eat" this allows the audience to expect something 'gruesome' to happen. The scenes at the beginning of the film are very bright making the mood seem happy although completely contrasts with what is actually happening in the film. The first couple of scenes show a farm in the country with a teenager called Billy. He is asked by fellow workers at the farm to put up scarecrows in the field. Everything seems normal until we see one of the scarecrows move. This frightens the audience and changes the mood of the film but still the lighting contrasts to what's happening in the film. The next scene shows a school bus out in the middle of nowhere but in a similar location to the farm. Using teenagers shows their vulnerability of being young.
Silence of the Lambs, directed by Jonathan Demme starts in a creepy way. The music, colours and setting all portray the genre of horror. The grey tones of colour with a lack of bright shots connote horror and evil goings-on. The film starts with an FBI student who have been put on case to do with a psychotic murderer. The mood of the film becomes increasing low when the case details are revealed showing the murder of innocent people and the removal of their skin. The student is asked to interview a Psychopath to help with another case. The student looks vulnerable because of her age and her height.
